Everyone Rides The Night Ride
You never know who's going to stay up late to sneak through the streets of Portland on The Night Ride. In fact, this year there is a crew visiting from Germany who are excited to ride and whoop it up (pictured).
Also riding will be Mattia Pelegrini, a cabinet member from the European Union Transportation Policy cabinet. Mr. Pellegrini will be visiting with Portland Bicycle Coordinator Roger Geller on Monday, but on Saturday night it's all about the fun stuff for him. We have not yet heard if he'll be in costume, but perhaps he'll sport the flag of his native Italy on his rental bike. Mr. Pellegrini is in town to learn more about Portland's progressive approach to transportation. Austin Ramsland, a board member from the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (the event's beneficiary) will be joining him on the ride.
Top that! Who are you bringing to The Night ride?

All About PJs: Rider comes from Idaho to ride The Night Ride
Julie Morrison is looking forward to the rare opportunity to sport her pajamas while atop a fancifully decorated bike at The Night Ride on July 11, during her upcoming visit to Portland.
Morrison is from Meridian, Idaho and will be riding with a small group of family and friends. What lured her into trekking from her hometown to join in the fun? "The craziness, the fact that it is so out of the ordinary for cycling... cycling in the dark!"
B
In a typical week, Morrison rides around the valley in Boise, Idaho three or four times. As a recreational road rider, Morrison is excited for the unusual perspective and unique experience that The Night Ride provides. "I love visiting Portland, this will create another terrific memory!"
Join Julie on July 11 and come to the dark ride!

The Nighttime Club Rides Again
The Night Ride last Saturday in Portland was off the hook! There were costumed riders everywhere. Over 1,300 people hit the streets for a nighttime adventure, and gobbled up 2,200 doughnuts at the finish line. The mysterious bagpiper, tucked away on a dark, quiet trail, was a huge hit. Riders also rode along the Columbia Slough Trail, the Peninsula Crossing Trail and other great routes as they snaked through the city.
Check out photos of the ride in the photo gallery. Did you go on the ride? What did you think?

A Nighttime Adventure Like No Other!
It's time for The Night Ride! This quirky-fun t-shirt is a hot Portland tradition that is not to be missed. Get your costume on and head down to the Amtrak station and get ready for an off-the-hook adventure. Registration is 8pm and the ride starts at 9pm. You may register at the event starting at 8pm.
I'm actually typing this live from the pre-ride party at the Lucky Lab NW. Glow necklaces are everywhere and people are swapping stories of what they're wearing for their costume, but others are keeping their clever ideas hush-hush; they're determined to win one of the great prizes. The disco lights are already in action (the organizers couldn't wait to hook them up for the disco party rest stop) and people are really excited for Saturday's ride. See you at the Amtrak station!

It's Time for the Nighttime Club
If all that daytime riding leaves you wondering what the city looks like at night, it's time you signed up for The Night Ride, Portland's signature nighttime ride and an annual tradition for thousands of bikers (July 12). The ride will take you past fire jugglers and nightlife party-goers cheering you on as you head to a special outdoor bike-in movie screening of short bicycle movies from Filmed by Bike.
Once you've had your fill of movies and popcorn, you'll travel along the Peninsula Crossing trail on your way to the Candy Land disco party rest stop where you can be a wallflower or step out on the dance floor - and eat all the candy your stomach can handle.
The fun keeps going as you cruise right back to where you started - to the Portland train station for a midnight all-you-can-eat doughnut feast. The Night Ride is a benefit for the Bicycle Transportation Alliance.
It all kicks off with the resounding drums of the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers. There are prizes for the best costumes and decorated bikes, so don't be shy and come dressed to impress. All riders will receive glow necklaces and glow-in-the-dark tattoos to ward off vampires along the way.
