Rider Profile: David + Teri Meyer for the Portland Century
August 11, 2009
David and Teri Meyer are taking their Portland Century involvement to a new level by also participating in the PC Challenge, an opportunity to raise support for prostate cancer while riding the Portland Century. "We are excited about being part of the ride to raise the profile of the need for increased funding for prostate cancer and as an opportunity to talk openly about how pervasive this disease is for men who otherwise could be leading vibrant and healthy lives in their middle-aged years." Joining the PC Challenge is easy, you first register for the Portland Century, then you download a fundraising form and encourage friends and family to support you mile by mile (or anyway you choose).
For David and Teri, their involvement is close to their hearts, "This disease has touched our circle of loved ones in the past several years. My beloved uncle was diagnosed a few years ago and he was one of those people who was vigilant about getting check ups due to a pre-existing history with his father. No matter how diligent and otherwise healthy, this disease is taking control of his destiny because thus far current treatment protocols are not progressed enough to provide the proper cure." David, Teri and many other PC Challenge riders will be bringing in much-needed support for the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. "We need better cures and funding can help make the difference," Teri says. "For some silly reason we as a society are not recognizing how serious this cancer is and it needs to be taken more seriously."
