Reach the Beach Says, "Hello Corvallis!"

April 4, 2007

Reach the Beach, well known for its beautiful routes through rural Oregon, continues add new, exciting features every year. This year they've added a Corvallis Challenge, 110 mile route starting from Cheldelin Middle School in Corvallis. This distance route will take you along winding roads through a gorgeous region or Oregon. The quiet rural route will meander through Oregon wine country along the way to Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City where a Finish Line Beach Party, and your pint of Pelican Pub beer, awaits. That's right, a party directly on the beach, as in sink-your-toes-in-the-sand. You're going to love it.

To sign up or for more information on any of the six routes of various lengths, see the Reach the Beach website.

Oh that's very tempting. Do I have enough time to train? I'm so out of shape from winter. Hmmm.

RiderRabi - you should have plenty of time between now and then to train. RTB is a pretty unchallenging route in terms of terrain no matter where you start from (the worst parts are a steep little climb just toward the end and the last 10-miles into a headwind) - what you should really concentrate on is saddle time - just start building up over the next 6 weeks - you'll do fine.

Hey RiderRabi,

Oh yeah, you've got plenty of time to train! In fact, if you're looking for people to train with, the Portland Wheelmen are leading a series of training rides, including some that are just for women. They're really supportive, very experienced and they've been leading our training rides for YEARS, so they know Reach the Beach well.

Thank you for posting the information about the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club training rides. I forgot about those but went on a few when I rode back in 2005 and found them to be a great way to prepare for the ride.

See you out there!
