Incredible Weather Across Oregon!

April 6, 2007

Wow, what gorgeous weather! Team ORbike member Porter is on his way to Hawaii and we're wondering why. As I type this, the weather across the state is out-of-control-amazing:

* Salem: 63
* Ashland: 73
* Oakridge (home of Mt. Bike Oregon): 72
* Klamath Falls: 68
* Bend: 66
* Portland: 72
* Pendleton: 59
* Corvalls (home of the new Reach the Beach start): 62

Good weather means great riding. What ride are you going to take today or this weekend?

By the way, this is an image from Mt. Bike Oregon, one of the more open, lovely trails that's in the mix along with hardcore singletrack and forested climbing.

My daughters and I are going to hit the Springwater as soon as I'm finished with work. We're bringing a little picnic dinner and will stop somewhere nice for an outdoor summer-like dinner. Blanket, picnic baseket and all. That is, if my little one doesn't eat up all the good stuff while riding in the trailer!

I live in Corvallis and I got some of my buddies to ditch work early with me. We're all going out for a little ride then we're either hitting a bar or heading to someone's house for some BBQ and beers. Could life be any sweeter?

Oh, and could you stop mentioning the Corvallis Reach The Beach route? It only makes me feel like a wuss for doing the shorter route that starts in Amity this year !! :)

Riding, lots of it, here in Eugene.

I visited the construction right next to Chip Ross Park, climbed Saddle Mountain, rode through the Soap Valley, and then checked out the open space (and bicycle trail) that is slated for massive development on the west edge of Corvallis.  I hope Brendan and others know about the Witham Oaks development proposal.  Now is the time to speak out against 221 new houses – all with two-car garages: http://www.gazettetimes.com/articles/2007/04/01/news/opinion/3edi2_lets330.txt

I thought I'd share just what makes me love Portland.
On my way to work this morning, one of the Shift folks was behind me at the light, and he mentioned that Fred Meyer has spoke lights on sale. (I checked it out at the 28th street store and didn't see them, but it was great to know)
Then on the way home, I saw a middle-aged chap heading off the max. I gave a friendly hello and rode off. When I reached the Eco-Trust building, the same person rode through at exactly the same time. We both laughed at this and rode on.
While riding through northeast, I headed down a small street, and a little girl with her dad looked at me waving and said, "bike, bike."
Then as I crossed Powell, I saw my friend Izarra riding past.
It's so amazing to be in a town where so many wonderful connections can be made.

I'm gonna wish I was there instead of freezing here in NYC.

Well.... here I am, on the internet, NOT out riding my bike. Yesterday I was so excited about the superb weather and planned an ambitious ride for today, but then the RAIN hit. Oh I'm so pissed. But, I've modified my ride, and I'm going out later anyway. Looks like it might clear up.
