Wow, all those people who want to help friends and family get out on bikes in the new year... we ought to have some sort of a program/event to help make this happen. To those of you who chose that answer, what are the people like who you want to encourage? what are the stumbling blocks?

I'd like my mom to ride with me on the weekends. She's really fit and healthy but recently had to give up running. She won't ride a bike, thouhg, because she says she feels scared in traffic.

Sarah and Gretchen, there is already a program to help people through the initial fear and uncertainty of biking in traffic. It was started by some Shift personalities and SE Uplift, here is an article:

Another article:

Here is the email list if you want to get involved or ask questions:

(it's a private list and you don't get the message archives or much of anything until subscribing)

For more information about the program contact SEUL Neighborhood Planner Gary Berger at (503) 232-0010 x314, gary [at] southeastuplift [dot] org.
