Freak Snowstorms Predicted!

August 5, 2006

Well, not really, but with the great weather that happens every year for the Worst Day of the Year Ride, you just never know what will happen on tomorrow's Hottest Day of the Year Ride. In fact, it's the first year for the ride so we're not at all sure what to expect. Registration has been really good and tons of people are heading out to the Lucky Lab Brew Hall (NW 19th and Quimby) for a fun ride in support of the Community Cycling Center.

You can register at the start line for only $30, which is an awesome deal considering a portion of the proceeds goes to the CCC and all that you get with the ride (read below).

There's the standard 15-mile option but also a 40-miler for those who want a little more of a challenge. The day rounds off with a HUGE water fight at the finish line and a make-your-own sundae bar. Rest stops along the way will keep you well hydrated and fueled with snacks. Head on out, check it out.

Great ride. Too bad the music at the finish line had to be painfully loud. This seems to be a required part of Portland rides. As a hearing aid wearer, the only way I could tolerate the volume was by turning the aids off. Even then it was too loud. Why can't we use a bit of discretion?
