Pedalite - What do you think?
December 12, 2005
My friend Brandon just discovered this pedal with built in LEDs. According to their website, the pedals use "energy storage technology to remain illuminated long after the cyclist stops pedalling". I'm all for lights that don't have to be removed for security reasons, but I'm not sure what I think of thise product. What do you think?
Read more on the Pedalite website and let me know what you think (leave a comment here).

Hey, these seem pretty cool. I'm all for lights whenever, especially for side view - cars rushing up to a stop-sign from your right or left can be pretty oblivious if all you have are front- & rear-facing beams.
But I'll be waiting for the clipless versions.

I love it! It won't get stolen, most likely. I mean, who has a pedal wrench on them at all times? Now, if only the rays of light went forward and backwards enough to eliminate my need for front and rear lights, that would be sweet.

i think they're a pretty good idea, albeit one hatched fully within the embrace of the Bicycle Inferiority Complex. I'm all for batteryfree light solutions, and the Brits are coming up with all kinds of those lately (see also http://www.goodbyebatteries.com). GG A, check it out!
I, too, would make more use of a clipless version. But there is a bike in the stable right now upon which these pedals would fit perfectly. It's a classic case of too many bike gadgets, too little $$$$$.

If they made a version which accommodates toeclips and straps, I might be interested, but for safety reasons I shall not ride a flat pedal with no provision for foot retention.

If they are so concerned about theft, why do they not provide a Torx receptacle (#25, perhaps) instead of the far more common 6mm Allen/hex key?
